YOUR DREAM HOUSE OF NATURAL MATERIALS

А home. A shelter. A cozy escape from the modern day stress.

The end of condensation on the windows. No more mold and mildew. Plastering the interior walls with clay provides constant humidity control. The clay absorbs excess moisture and releases it when the surrounding air becomes too dry. Clay plastered walls guarantee about 55% relative humidity in the house all year around.

1. LOVELY AND CONTROLLED MICROCLIMATE

Born in nature, the straw is almost completely toxin-free when compared to the majority of the conventional building materials. Combined with natural clay plaster it can guarantee a healthier environment to live in. The entire house can be built by using only natural materials like wood, clay, sheep wool, lime...

2. HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT

3. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, LOCALLY SOURCED AND WITH LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT

Straw houses are incredibly Eco-friendly. Straw is typically an agricultural by-product left from cereal crops harvesting. It is the most sustainable material people produce from nature. As it grows, the plant would capture CO2 and only release it if burnt, decayed or processed. Building with a house with straw panels would therefore delay returning CO2 to the atmosphere for the live of the building.

4. AFFORDABLE & COST EFFECTIVE

When compared to conventional building, straw houses return on investment is significantly higher due to their energy efficiency. When it is finished your house will be very cost effective to inhabit, especially if you live in an area with more than two seasons. It would require very low energy to heat in winter and almost none to cool in summer. Living in a straw house can lower your energy expenditures by up to 70 percent.

5. CUSTOMIZABLE TO FIT ANY ARCHITECTURE STYLE

Straw panels are very accommodating. They give you and your designer the liberty to realize modern and traditional buildings.  Almost any project can be fulfilled with Straw modules as they can be built with any dimension fitting the optimal maximum: 400mm/1200mm/3000mm to fit any space.

6. LOW FIRE HAZARD

Since straw insulation is tightly packed to achieve optimum density (100 kg / m3) it is very difficult for them to catch on fire. They do not burn as easily as certain other materials. The tight packing reduces airflow, something that is critical to sustain a fire. Even more, compressed straw, which embraces the construction, protects it from burning.  Once the home is finished with clay plaster, it’s flame retardant nature decreases the risk, usually resulting in a home that better resists burning than a conventional house.

7. CONVENIENT

Building a straw house can be a challenge if done using bales.
Building with the Straw modules is a different story - every module has its own spot in the wall and fixing it in place is as easy as screwing it to the next one (and the base ring it steps on). Raising a Straw module wall can be much quicker and easier than conventional wall construction as each module is designed and built with upmost precision and care.

8. ATTRACTIVE AESTHETIC

Straw houses offer a variety of design features options. The signature deep window niches are usually formed into comfortable window seats or a large shelfs for planted flowers or herbs. Any clay or lime plaster can be used to finish a straw house, revealing a great variety of colors and nuances as well as surface finishing and texture possibilities.

9. BIODEGRADABLE

While a straw house can last for more than 100 years when constructed and maintained properly, the core material can be returned to the earth if rebuilding becomes necessary. When no longer needed, the straw can be returned to the natural cycle and plowed into the soil to decompose.

10. ELIGIBLE TO DIFFERENT FINANCING SCHEMES

Because of its environmental friendliness and cost effectiveness this type of house is eligible to different project financing schemes and is even financed tolerably by most banks. You have to research opportunities in your region.

My name is Petyo Petkov and I want to share my satisfaction with working with Straw Bale Modules and it’s owners Vladi and Velyo. Exceptional professionals, with whose support I created my little mountain "Straw House". Personally, I was impressed by their attention to detail, improvisation and accuracy of execution. I am grateful to them for their dedication, invaluable advice and practical support, without which I would have a hard time coping as a layman in construction.

I would be happy to work with them on future projects and I recommend them with both hands! I enclose photos from the process and wish all the best to them and to the esteemed clients of Straw Bale House!
